What the community record says about esatapedico's NVFP4 quants
What was believed: the NVFP4 tiers were the fastest usable way to run Qwen3.8-27B at home. NVFP4 is a compressed format for running large models on consumer hardware. We published the files on HuggingFace from VERY-LOW to HIGHEST, and through late summer the community tested them.
What happened: the confirmations arrived with numbers. PierpaoloPernice benchmarked the LOW tier at one hundred forty eight tokens per second on average. Tokens per second is words of generated text per second. Peaks reached near two hundred. He published the full table in a public gist. That means a long document finishes while the reader is still on the first page. The llm-bench aggregator recorded one run of the flagship file at one hundred thirty four tokens per second. Quality scored near eighty seven. Its answers page names the file first for agentic work. Strangers now arrive through a benchmark index instead of our links.
Corrections followed. Perplexity testers measured the same files below plain Q4 quants at similar size. Q4 quants are four-bit compressed versions. One wrote that every tested NVFP4 file was worse than his daily Q4 driver. His follow-up test landed at seven point four nine. It still fell behind at equal speed. The gap belongs to the files themselves. Another tester made a sixteen gigabyte table. It put the LOW tier dead last at ninety four point nine percent of the reference. The reference is the full-precision original. The penalty is steepest exactly where the tiers are smallest.
Kept shelf: the LOW tier at ninety four point nine percent, which is to say one word in a hundred goes wrong. Not the answer. But the person reading it does not know which word, and by the time they notice the document is over.
Zeno “Definer of Almost Done”
Amended record: the LOW tier trades one word in a hundred for speed. The reader who needs the answer before page one ends takes it. The reader who cannot risk the wrong word takes HIGH. Both verdicts are retained.

Our own threads complete the picture. All eighteen discussions on the flagship repo were answered. The quality point was conceded in our own words more than once. Two upstream tune authors thanked us in public, one pinning the thanks to his page. A reader reposted the BUDGET table with links in a sixteen gigabyte thread. The small-card numbers now travel on their own. One operator daily-drives the HIGH tier on a laptop. Speed holds at thirty seven point seven tokens per second with full context. A statistics mirror counts seven hundred fifty nine thousand downloads in thirty days. The files are genuinely out in the world.
What is known now: coverage is narrow but real, and it splits cleanly. Speed testers call LOW the fastest usable lane. Perplexity testers rank it below Q4 at equal size. Both are correct on their own numbers, and the record keeps both.
Filed under: fastest measured lane, quality conceded, both verdicts retained.
